Monday: Students created an A-Z list of words that they could use as dialogue tags. For example, words that could be swapped out in the place of said to make writing more creative. Students took notes on dialogue rules (See Grammar tab for a copy of the PowerPoint).
Homework: Finish Memory Map, if needed. Work on Vocabulary Chart. Read "Looming Large and Smelly."
Tuesday: Students had a mini-lesson on writing hooks (page 37 of SB). Students also began writing rough drafts of their Personal Narratives based on Memory Map prewriting.
Homework: Finish Vocabulary Chart. Read "The Visit."
Wednesday: Students had a mini-lesson on transitions (pages 40 & 43 of SB) and watched a Flocabulary video about transitions compared to the changes of video games. Students finished rough drafts of their Personal Narratives.
Homework: Vocabulary Choice work. Read "The Serious Willies."
Thursday: Students revised and edited their own rough drafts of the Personal Narrative. Then, students found a partner to peer conference in order to better improve their own essay.
Homework: Study for vocabulary quiz. Read "The Dinner." Finish rough draft/revising/editing, if necessary.
Friday: Students reviewed for the Vocabulary Quiz, then took a group Flipped/Vocabulary Quiz. Students finished class by starting to look at a short story and the rubric for their Formal Novel Discussion.
Homework: Type or write your final draft in pen. (If you type and don't have a printer, please email me your work AND save it on a flash drive. I will print it for you on Monday!) Due Monday!
